Two quality colts for JHB on day 1 of the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale

As has been the case throughout the sales series this year, there was once again strong competition for the choice lots at the Inglis Melbourne Premier Yearling Sale, and we were delighted to come away with two outstanding colts on day 1 to add to the JHB Colt Group.

Our first purchase was lot 63, a son of Capitalist, purchased from Northmore Thoroughbreds for $340,000. This colt’s sire, a JHB yearling purchase, continues to hit great heights with his first runners, now with no fewer than nine stakes performers (27% of his runners), and a pair of stakes winners already. This colt is also from a strong, speed family, being out of a half-sister to the dam of NZ Champion 2YO Cool Aza Beel, and this is also the family of top-class sprinters Malaguerra and Libertini.

Our second purchase was lot 70, the colt by Written Tycoon out of Gybe, purchased for $1,100,000 from Blue Gum Farm (as Agent for Rob Crabtree’s Dorrington Farm). Written Tycoon continues to cement himself as one of Australia’s very best stallions with another exceptional year on the race track. This colt is also out of a very fast mare in Gybe, who was a winner of the time-honoured Gimcrack Stakes in Sydney as a 2YO, before training on to be a very high-class sprinter.
